The Columbus Capitols girls’ team has been selected as the best team in the Y league to play in the preliminary contest at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium gymnasium tonight. The Columbus Capitols, sparked by Stokes Shehan, rolled to a 72-66 YMCA County Basketball League victory over Spartan Mills at Spartanburg on Thursday night. Shehan, a guard, rattled the back boards for a total of 22 points to walk off with individual high scor ing honors. Magazine Has Articles About WNC Business The February issue of Redbook Magazine, in an article entitled “This Is the Life”, tells of the family business established at Cashiers by Hank and Dottie Conkle. According to the article, Conkle built a home at Cashiers after serving four years in the Navy, and started a gift shop business in the home, offering for sale mountain crafts and hand-made articles. In six years the business has become very successful. The article, by Max De Novellis, is illustrated by seven color and two black and white photographs. —Asheville Citizen.
